American Silver Eagles

Sales of American Silver Eagles have risen sharply following the 2008 financial crisis with total sales hitting records every year since. 2008 sales of silver eagles were 21,817,736. 2012 sales of silver eagles were 40,970,000.
Silver Eagles were authorized by Congress in 1985 and first minted in 1986. The design on the coin’s obverse is based on the “Walking Liberty” design by Adolph A. Weinman which was used on Walking Liberty Half Dollar coins minted from 1916 to 1947. Silver Eagles are currently minted by the West Point Mint and the San Francisco Mint.
Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coins are one of the most popular silver bullion coins today. The quality of the coins and the reputation of the Royal Canadian Mint have made the 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf a mainstay for silver investors. Unlike most silver bars and silver rounds which have a purity of 99.9%, the purity of the 1 oz Silver Maple is 99.99%.
The Royal Canadian Mint has been producing the 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf coin since 1988. During that time a number of variations, privy marks and special editions have been issued. This has made certain 1 oz Silver Maples into highly desirable collectibles.
The Mexican Silver Libertad is the official silver bullion coin by the National Mint of Mexico, also known as Casa de Moneda de Mexico. The Mexican Silver Libertad has been minted since 1982 and has seen several distinct style changes. From 1982-1989 the obverse depicts the Mexican Coat of arms. From 2000 on, the obverse depicts the Mexican Coat of arms surrounded by national heraldic designs. From 1982-1995 the reverse depicts a front-facing winged Goddess Victoria. From 1996 on, the reverse depicts an angled-facing winged Goddess Victoria. Sarasota Antiques carries a large selection of 1 oz Silver Libertads.

The American Gold Buffalo is a .9999 pure, 24-karat 1 oz. gold bullion coin, first offered for sale by the United States Mint on June 22, 2006. Prior to this, the only gold bullion coin was the American Gold Eagle which is 22-karats, with an alloy of copper and silver added for durability. This makes the American Gold Eagle coin larger and heavier than a comparable American Gold Buffalo. Realizing a demand for a 24-karat gold coin, the U.S. government authorized the Gold American Buffalo with the Presidential $1 Coin act of 2005. The design of the American Buffalo is a modified version of the noted Buffalo nickel designed by James Earle Fraser and first issued in early 1913. The obverse of the coin depicts a Native American profile, and the reverse features an American Buffalo with inscriptions of weight, denomination and gold content. The American Gold Buffalo weighs 31.108 grams, has a diameter of 32.7mm., a thickness of 2.95mm, and has reeded edges. Some Gold American Buffalo Bullion coins are eligible for metals IRAs.

Gold Mexican 50 Pesos Centenarios. The national mint of Mexico is the Casa de Moneda de Mexico. Established in 1535, it is the oldest mint in the Americas. Gold coins and bullion from Mexico have a long history in the numismatic and precious metal investment community. Among the most well known Mexican coins is the 1.2057 oz., Mexican gold 50 Peso Centenarios, the oldest pure bullion gold coin to have been produced in large quantities. First minted in 1921, the Mexican Gold Peso commemorates the centennial of Mexico’s hard won independence from Spanish colonial rule.

The South African Gold Krugerrand
remains a mainstay in the gold bullion industry. The Gold Krugerrand was the first bullion gold coin to be minted in 1 oz increments and marketed for private ownership. The Gold Krugerrand is considered to be the most widely held and actively traded gold bullion coin. The 1 oz Gold Krugerrand was developed by the South African Chamber of Mines on behalf of the South African gold mining industry. South Africa remains one of the primary producers of gold, although output has been declining. The 1 oz Gold Krugerrand is a 22k gold coin but does contain 1 troy ounce of gold. Gold Krugerrands are most noted for the low premium over spot at which they trade and their international recognition among gold bullion investors.
